NordVPN Review 2026: Is It Really the Best VPN?

If you are looking for a VPN, you have probably heard of NordVPN. It is one of the most popular and highly rated VPNs on the market. But is it really worth the hype? In this comprehensive review, we will break down its speed, security, features, and pricing to help you decide if it is the right choice for you.

Key Facts: Who is Behind NordVPN?

NordVPN is a product of Nord Security, a company known for other top-tier cybersecurity tools like NordPass (password manager), NordLocker (file encryption), and Saily (eSIM service). This ecosystem means you can protect your entire digital life in one place.

Speed and Performance: The Fastest VPN

According to an independent test by West Coast Labs in October 2025, NordVPN was the fastest VPN tested. It averaged an impressive 817 Mbps, outperforming competitors by 29-92 Mbps. It achieved a near-perfect score of 58/60.

This means you can stream in 4K, download large files, and game without any lag.

Massive Server Network

NordVPN offers over 9,500 servers in 150 countries. Whether you are in the US, Europe, Asia, or South America, you will always find a fast server nearby. They even offer specific city selections in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

Security and Privacy: Six-Times Audited No-Logs

Security is where NordVPN shines. It uses AES-256 encryption, which is virtually unbreakable. It also offers three main protocols:

  • OpenVPN: Highly secure and reliable.
  • IKEv2/IPsec: Great for mobile devices.
  • NordLynx: Based on WireGuard, this is the fastest protocol available.
  • NordWhisper: A new protocol designed to bypass network filters and firewalls, perfect for travelers.

More importantly, NordVPN is a six-times audited no-logs service. This means independent auditors have verified that they do not track or store your browsing history.

Specialty Servers for Advanced Users

NordVPN goes beyond basic VPN servers. They offer specialized features for maximum privacy:

  • Double VPN: Routes your traffic through two servers for double encryption.
  • Onion over VPN: Routes your traffic through the Tor network for ultimate anonymity.
  • Obfuscated Servers: Hides the fact that you are using a VPN, allowing you to bypass heavy restrictions in countries like China.
  • P2P Servers: Optimized for fast and secure torrenting.
  • Dedicated IP: Gives you your own unique IP address.

Next-Generation Antivirus: Threat Protection Pro™

NordVPN is no longer just a VPN; it is becoming an all-in-one security suite. Threat Protection Pro™ is their next-generation antivirus. (Note: This feature is available only with the NordVPN Complete and Ultra plans). It blocks malicious websites, phishing attempts, ads, and trackers before they even reach your device.

On Windows, it can also scan for vulnerable applications. This feature works even when the VPN is disconnected, giving you an extra layer of security.

Additional Features

  • Scam Call Protection: Identifies potential scam calls on Android and iPhone and displays a warning before you answer.
  • Split Tunneling: Choose which apps use the VPN and which use your regular internet connection.
  • Dark Web Monitor: Scans the dark web for your credentials and alerts you if they are leaked.
  • 10 Simultaneous Connections: Protect your phone, laptop, tablet, and smart TV all at once.
